Mary Meeker at Web 2.0 Summit SF on Technoloy trends

It´not brand new but a great 12 minute summary of all relevant figures and trends in technology at the moment. Mary Meeker is one of the heroes of the industry and a welcome speaker at many conferences. Too bad she is in Europe only from time to time.

Street Art and Public Domain

I am currently investigating on question that is relevant for my “Street Art Trading Cards” project. The question whether Street Art in general is in the Public Domain or the artists still are able to claim a copyright as they would be able with conventional works of art.

You can follow the thread at the Creative Commons Forum here.

What I found interesting, regardless of the legal evaluation is a discussion of the Berlin Street Artist Gould with the German publisher Prestel. Gould has claimed that 25% of all works shown in the book “Berlin Street Art” was made by him and asks the publishes to comment. You can find the open letter from Gould to Prestel here.

This leads me to the conclusion that albeit legally not required it is smart to ask the artists for approval before including their work in any form of commercial work. What might be interesting or something to happen is a general declaration for street artist to issue their work under some Creative Commons or similar license.

Image Flugulator

knarre

I found this surprising tool here. It allows for the insertion of images to images taken at the same time (with a flash) by another person. The great thing is that the other one will not recognise that his picture is manipulated as the insertion happens at the same time his flash is on.
Big props to the guy who did this, I am getting nervous already to try it out on my own.

Amazon is ready to rock!

I have been waiting for this so long. Amazon goes DRM free. The main question is whether Amazon allows users to resell tracks purchased. If yes, this is the beginning of a wonderful story.

Twittervision

A new mesh-up service has found the way onto thousands of browsers globally. Twittervision is an extension of Twitter, a service that MSNBC described as “taking e-chat to the extreme” - well, I can hardly cope with 2 mail accounts, a fixed line phone, a mobile phone, a blackberry, skype and MSN as my interfaces to the digital world. Guess that just another one would extend my communication capabilities.

Nevertheless, I can spend hours to see what´s going on. Difficult to monetize, but an awful lot of fun!
